Dr. Sherri Haas Implants New Proclaim Plus™ Spinal Cord Stimulator

Dr. Haas is the first female physician in the upper Midwest to implant the new device

It is another significant FIRST for Twin Cities Pain Clinic! Our own Dr. Sherri Haas is the first female physician in the upper Midwest to implant the new Proclaim Plus™ spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system by Abbott. The procedure was completed on the morning of Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Twin Cities Surgery Center in Edina, Minnesota.

This latest achievement by Dr. Haas is another example of our commitment to our mission: To provide our patients and community the most innovative, breakthrough treatment options to improve overall health and wellness.

By adding this revolutionary new therapy to our list of treatment options, our organization will be more effective than ever before at relieving pain and improving quality of life for our patients.

We are very proud of Dr. Haas for being selected as one of the first physicians to perform this new treatment and grateful to our friends at Abbott for their partnership.

A Brief Spinal Cord Stimulation Primer

Spinal cord stimulation is a highly advanced method for treating a wide variety of chronic pain conditions.

A pulse generator (essentially a small battery not much larger than a silver dollar) is implanted in the lower back. The generator emits electric pulses which are delivered by specialized wires (called leads) directly to the nerves associated with the patient’s pain.

The electricity stimulates the nerves, blocking pain signals before they can be interpreted by the brain. This in turn reduces the sensation of pain that the patient experiences.

The Proclaim Plus SCS System

The Proclaim Plus features some of the most advanced and highly specialized applications of any SCS system available. It is designed to treat patients with chronic pain at multiple sites throughout the body, a first in the industry. More than 50 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic pain1 and 88% of those have pain in at least two or more different areas of their body2, making Proclaim Plus and truly unique and valuable treatment option.

The Proclaim Plus can also be combined with Abbott’s proprietary Burst360 programming settings. This allows physicians to identify the lowest effective dose of stimulation for each patient and adjust it based on changing pain needs.

Additionally, the Proclaim Plus is compatible with Abbott’s NeuroSphere Virtual Clinic3, a first-of-its-kind stimulation technology in the U.S. that allows patients to communicate with physicians, ensure proper device functionality, and receive programming adjustments, all remotely from their own mobile device.
