Happy Retirement Nancy Cleveland

Nancy Cleveland retires after 12 years with Twin Cities Pain ClinicAfter a storied and successful career, 12 years of which were spent right here at Twin Cities Pain Clinic, our provider, colleague, and friend, Nancy Cleveland, has decided to retire. Beloved by patients and coworkers alike, Nancy has been an indescribably important member of our team during her time here.

A Bit About Nancy

Nancy is a native of Texas and has always had a fondness for the outdoors. Her favorite activities and hobbies have historically included traveling, hiking, fishing, bike riding, bird watching.

Nancy also did all her schooling in the Lone Star State. She performed her undergraduate studies at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth before completing her graduate studies at the University of Texas at Arlington. She then went on to obtain her nurse practitioner certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

After graduating and becoming certified, Nancy spent the first 10 years of her career practicing family medicine in the Arlington area.

Joining Twin Cities Pain Clinic

10 years into her career, Nancy moved from Texas to beautiful Minnesota. She loved her new home but had trouble finding a family medicine job within a reasonable distance from her house. As luck would have it though, she noticed an ad placed by a man named Dr. Andrew Will. He was looking for an advanced practice provider to join his growing pain management practice in Edina.

Never one to back down from a new opportunity, Nancy decided to give this new career option a shot. Before you know it, Nancy was a practicing provider at Twin Cities Pain Clinic! This was in 2010, back when the practice was at its original Edina location on France Avenue and well before any of our satellite clinics existed.

So yes, Nancy has seen this company go through a lot during her time here. For example, there were only 16 people in the entire company when she started. Compare that to now when we employ nearly 10 TIMES that many. Nancy, undoubtedly, played no small role in that amazing growth.

Good Colleagues, Good Friends, Good Career

Alongside her firm sense of commitment and stellar work ethic, Nancy’s longevity with the organization was likely assisted by having such a great leader and team over the years.

“From the beginning, Dr. Will has been a truly amazing guy to work for,” Nancy exclaimed. “He has taught me so much and has always been so proactive in supporting me and my fellow providers. I have never felt unappreciated or taken for granted.”

When asked about her favorite part of working for TCPC, Nancy replied by stating her amazement at how the practice progressed as it grew.

“As our team expanded, we just got better and better at what we do,” Nancy said. “I have been particularly amazed at how we have successfully adopted so many new, medication-free options to treat chronic pain. Not only were we one of the first to start using things like pumps and stimulators, but we have continued to take make great efforts to stay at the forefront of these revolutionary technologies. We want to be the best, for our patients’ sake.”

Nancy also commented on how much she has enjoyed working with such a talented and collaborative team. She made specific note of how someone always has a solution. If she wasn’t sure how to help a certain patient, at least one of her fellow providers always had a new idea to offer up.

FUN FACT: Our provider, Erin DeNucci, used to be Nancy’s scribe. After a little more than a year of working with Nancy, Erin went on to get her own certification as an advanced practice provider. She has now rejoined the team and Nancy is thrilled that she had the opportunity to welcome Erin back, one provider to another.

With Love From the Patients

The impact Nancy has had on this organization can be seen and felt by the feedback received by her patients. As she has been announcing her impending departure, Nancy has received numerous very nice cards from her patients and even shared a few tears with some of them.

But don’t take our word for it. Here is a testimonial from one of Nancy’s patients that paints a perfect picture of the type of person Nancy is:

“Nancy Cleveland has impacted my life more than I could ever express. I have a large team of doctors and medical experts and she seems to understand my complex issues better than anyone. I almost always give her a hug after I leave because I truly appreciate her ability to listen to me talk and her ability to try something new when my pain starts being abnormal.

She seems to be able to solve new issues in my pain and she does this by listening and knowing my history of the years I have been her patient. She has such a calming demeanor, and she truly cares. I have seen many medical teams across the country and Nancy is truly my personal favorite. I know she understands the impact she has on my life but because of her, I can do almost everything because she finds the right treatment to keep me going. Please let Nancy know the profound impact she can have on her patients’ lives.”

What Comes Next?

Once Nancy has stepped down from her impressive career, she is hoping to do a lot more traveling with her extra time. Italy is a particular destination that she wants to check off her list.

Eventually, Nancy plans to move to Arizona. She inherited a house from her mother in Tucson and plans to take up permanent residence there someday.

Along with all that, Nancy is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends. Sounds like a pretty great way to spend a retirement!

Though Nancy will no doubt be missed by all those who have had the pleasure of working with her, we wish her the warmest and fondest wishes as she takes this next step in her journey. Thank you, Nancy, for your years of service, friendship, and unwavering commitment to patient care.

Congratulations on a very well-deserved retirement.
