Genitofemoral Nerve Block
The genitofemoral nerve is located in your abdomen. It is at risk of being injured during lower abdominal surgery (such as a C-section, appendectomy, hernia repair, or laparoscopic surgery), which can cause chronic pelvic, penile, testicular, or groin pain.
A genitofemoral nerve block can provide diagnostic benefit and/or therapeutic relief for this pain.

What is a genitofemoral nerve block?
A genitofemoral nerve block is a minimally invasive injection of medication intended to relieve chronic pain in the groin or pelvic region. The medication numbs the nerves, thus “switching off” pain signals.
What happens during a genitofemoral nerve block?
You will be brought into the procedure room and laid on a special table. We will take great care to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure. Your skin will be cleaned at the injection site and a local anesthetic will be applied to minimize any discomfort. Your physician will use a special kind of x-ray (called a fluoroscope) to guide the needle to the appropriate site.
A special medication is injected around the genitofemoral nerve. The medication bathes the nerves, relieving pain.
