Dr. Will Implants the New Proclaim DRG Neurostimulator
Dr. Andrew Will is the first physician in Minnesota to implant the new Proclaim DRG spinal cord stimulator system by Abbott!
On October 18th, 2017, at Twin Cities Surgery Center in Edina, MN, Dr. Andrew Will implanted the first Proclaim DRG spinal cord stimulator system in Minnesota.
“The Twin Cities Pain Clinic team is resolute in our commitment to staying at the forefront of pain medicine,” said Dr. Will. “We strive to incorporate the most modern treatment options and current techniques into our care strategy. To that end, we are very excited to offer DRG stimulation therapy to treat our patients suffering from debilitating chronic pain.”
The Proclaim is the first spinal cord stimulation platform to receive FDA approval for targeting the dorsal root ganglion (DRG). The DRG is a cluster of neurons located near the area where the spinal nerves begin to branch off from the spine. From there, the nerves travel to the furthest reaches of the body, such as the feet and hands. As a result, the DRG associates closely with pain signals coming from those extremities.
The most common condition the DRG treats is known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is a type of chronic pain that usually results from a malfunction of the nervous systems due to injury, disease, or trauma. The resulting symptoms are a consistent burning pain in the extremities, most commonly the legs and feet. It is one of the most difficult types of pain to treat because of its complexity in intensity and location.
Luckily, the Proclaim DRG neurostimulator specializes in overcoming these complexities. It is one of the most effective treatments for providing lasting relief and comfort for patients with pain in these hard-to-reach extremities.
Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation at Twin Cities Pain Clinic
At Twin Cities Pain Clinic, our team is specially trained to perform DRG stimulator therapy. Becoming certified to perform this procedure is a difficult process, and the list of certified physicians is small. However, all of our skilled pain doctors have their certification, and our surgical team performs dozens of implants each year.
It is our team’s mission to help patients get back to living their life with less pain. Our team combines compassion with in-depth knowledge and the most recent technology to give patients the best possible relief from their chronic pain.
