Dr. Sherri Haas First Female Physician in Minnesota to Implant VANTA Spinal Cord Stimulator
It’s another Milestone Moment for Twin Cities Pain Clinic! Our own Dr. Sherri Haas recently became the first female physician in the state of Minnesota to implant the new VANTA™ SCS neurostimulation device by Medtronic. The successful procedure was performed on the morning of Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Twin Cities Surgery Center in Edina, MN.
A bit about spinal cord stimulation
Spinal cord stimulation is an advanced pain treatment that relieves pain by “stimulating” nerves in the spine.
A small battery, which is implanted in the patient’s lower abdomen, emits mild electrical pulses. These pulses travel along specialized leads that are internally placed next to the nerves in the spine that are associated with the pain. The electricity then “stimulates” the nerves, masking pain signals and reducing pain.
The VANTA™ system
The VANTA™ SCS system by Medtronic is one of the most advanced stimulation devices available today. Not only is it MRI-compatible, but its new design allows it to continuously achieve optimal performance for up to 11 years without needing to be recharged!
