Twin Cities Pain Clinic Implants the First Spectra WaveWriter Spinal Cord Stimulator in Minnesota
At Twin Cities Pain Clinic, we put significant time and effort into staying at the forefront of pain management innovation. By helping to advance the frontiers of pain medicine, we ensure our patients have access to the newest and most effective treatment options to relieve pain and renew quality of life.
As part of our commitment to excellence, our organization regularly partners with some of the world’s top medical technology groups to introduce their latest breakthrough treatments to the Minnesota market.
Introducing the Spectra WaveWriterTM spinal cord stimulator
Twin Cities Pain Clinic is often selected as the first medical group in the state of Minnesota to implant brand new spinal cord stimulation devices. This was indeed the case with the introduction of the Spectra WaveWriter Spinal Cord Simulator system by Boston Scientific.
On February 6th, 2018, at Twin Cities Surgery Center in Edina, MN, Dr. Andrew Will and Dr. Sherri Haas implanted the first Spectra WaveWriter spinal cord stimulator system in Minnesota.
The FDA approved device is the first spinal cord simulation system to simultaneously provide paresthesia-based and sub-perception therapy. Paresthesia refers to a tingling sensation and is a common result of SCS therapy. The patient’s pain is essentially replaced by a very mild tingle. Sub-perception refers to SCS therapy that relieves pain without any noticeable paresthesia.
The WaveWriter system allows physicians and patients to combine therapeutic options and customize their therapy approach. The system also captures real-time feedback, which allows for the optimal treatment of debilitating chronic pain.
Improving quality of life with spinal cord stimulation
Access to advanced treatment options offers new hope to Minnesota residents like Jerri Thomas, who has had a history of struggling with debilitating pain.
Jerri is the first person in the state of Minnesota to receive the new Spectra WaveWriter device.
Jerri was involved in multiple car accidents, leaving her with low back and leg pain as well as fibromyalgia. She received her first spinal cord stimulator implanted in 2012 and is excited for the benefits the WaveWriter will bring.
Spinal Cord Stimulation allows Jerri to return to the things she loves most, like being active with her eight grandchildren. When asked if she would recommend Spinal Cord Stimulation to others, she responded with, “I already have, and I will continue to do so.”
